Monitoring of the impact on various aspects (environment, climate, economy, biodiversity, awareness raising) is an integral part of any LIFE project. Assessment of LIFE Key Project Level Indicators is necessary to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and overall impact of the LIFE REEF actions. Assessment of LIFE Key project level indicators is very important, as the same indicators from different projects allow to measure the success and impact of LIFE REEF at the EU level.

Results in the Mid-term of the Project:

According to Indicator values entered in the KPI database at the beginning of the Project, we estimated that at the end of the Project researched area will be 4116km2. No changes until the Mid-term phase has occurred, all 4116km2 have been involved and research in this area will be continued until the end of the Project.

All together officially 47 employees have been involved in the Project actions and are regularly present within or near the Project area.

Until the Mid-term phase we have not measured yet the area in hectares of researched habitats of 1110 Sandbanks and 1170 Stony reefs due to processing of obtained data in the field. The same situation is with Invasive Alien Species - we have not measured reduction of individuals and population of round goby. All the measurements will be done until the end of the Project.

Until the Mid-term phase altogether in the implementation process of the Project we have involved 10 organisations of public body and 6 NGOs, so these KPI’s are reached in the Mid-term phase.

During Project actions we have already trained 85 individual volunteers to recognise IAS in nature and to report their finds of marine IAS in nature. We have introduced volunteers with the use of Manager of Invasive Species, so the predicted KPI is reached in the Mid-term phase.

At the beginning of the Project we predicted to produce 6 media products, but at the implementation stage after discussions Project management Team decided to create other scenarios for video clips which would be more informative and thematic but with the same budget. So at the Mid-term phase we already have 8 media products and one more is in production. With this action we have reached predicted KPI and at the end of the Project it will be exceeded than originally planned by 3 units.

At the Mid-term phase we have created 1 exhibition with 31 large photos. The Project proposal exhibition was planned to be created at the end of 2023, but we managed to create it more than one year earlier to provide an exhibition audience larger at a wider time scale, so this KPI is also reached earlier than planned.

At the beginning of the Project in the KPI database we predicted that at the end of the Project we would reach at least 500 members or interest groups (individuals) and introduce them with the aim and actions of the Project. In the Mid-term phase we have already overreached the planned number of individuals. 101 persons were met at the Launch seminar, 54 individuals were reached during meetings of the commencement of management plan. 423 persons came to the Night of Scientists 2022 where LIAE introduced society with scientific work in the Baltic Sea and Project actions. Already 2125 individuals have seen the photo exhibition and have heard about the Project actions through photos. 273 publications have been published in different media, including TV, newspapers, social media, web-sites and radio. Web-site of the project during the reporting period has been visited by 2028 unique visitors.

For the implementation of the Project, there are 3 employees in all beneficiaries that work as full-time employees (FTE) and 44 employees that are part-time employees. It is foreseen that all employees of associated beneficiaries will continue to work in their institutions as they are non-additional staff to the Project, so the KPI of employment has been reached in the Mid-term phase.
