LIFE REEF project invites schoolchildren from all over Latvia to participate in the poetry competition "The Sea in the Soul". Poetry entries must be sent by post to the office of Nature Conservation Agency (Meža māja, Ķemeri, LV-2012) by 8 March 2024 (postmark). The most interesting poetry will be published in an autobiographical life story publication "The Sea in the Soul", which will reach the readers in the middle of next year.
Poetry entries must be handwritten in legible Latvian on any paper. It is important that the poetry uses the Latvian spelling. The author's name, age, contact telephone number (child or parent) and the author's signature at the end of the poem must be included. The competition rules are available at https://www.daba.gov.lv/lv/radosie-konkursi.
"Being in nature is in Latvian nature. The sea, the sun, the thunder, as well as the forest, the meadow, the birds and other elements of nature are sources of inspiration for so many songs, paintings, works of fiction, etc. An autobiographical life story book "The Sea in the Soul" is currently in preparation, which will reflect the life stories of Baltic Sea coastal inhabitants, fishermen, marine hydroecologists and ichthyologists. Therefore, we are now also inviting schoolchildren to contribute and to create poetry about the sea with joy and inspiration to pass on to future generations," says Ilze Sabule, the project manager of the LIFE REEF project.
Anyone whose life is connected to the Baltic Sea or has an impact on their life, work or creativity is invited to apply for a life story interview by emailing gunta.gabrane@daba.gov.lv.
