Take a look into the Baltic Sea The Latvian National Museum of Natural History is hosting an exhibition on the underwater landscapes of the Baltic Sea and the diversity of living organisms found there. The exhibition consists of deep-sea photographic images and objects from the Museum's collections. While the Latvian National Museum of Natural History's marine exhibition is closed for reconstruction, the museum invites you to explore marine themes in the collaborative exhibition "Look into the Baltic Sea". "The Baltic Deep Sea" photo exhibition and objects from the collections of the Latvian National Museum of Natural History, which is open in the museum's small exhibition hall. The photo exhibition "Baltic Deep Sea" brings together materials from the photo archives of the Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology, BIOR,Nature Conservation Agencyand Mareks Bērziņš. It reveals underwater landscapes and sights recorded at depths of more than 25 metres that have probably only been seen by marine researchers and professional divers. You can see butterfish, long-spined bull-rout, four-horned sculpin, underwater oxygen-producing pink algae, the Baltic Sea's most abundant jellyfish and water clarity promoters such as acorns and mussels in all their glory. The invertebrates, fish, algae and habitats in the pictures are complemented by objects from the collection of the Latvian National Museum of Nature. A special specimen in the exhibition is the skeleton of a dolphin, the afalina, which will be on display for the first time at the Museum of Natural History, taken from a dead animal that washed up on the Latvian coast in spring 2023.
