Networking between projects with similar goals is very important for the success of not only new projects but also for projects which are in their implementation process. It is planned to establish contacts with LIFE projects thougt all Europe to share and obtain best practice of implementing LIFE marine projects.

 

Results in the Mid-term of the Project:

Project representatives have participated in different kinds of experience exchange and networking activities, but mainly online - cooperation with other projects (LIFE projects and other programmes), organisations and individuals, participation in national and international level events – conferences, forums, working groups, discussions etc.). Due to Covid-19 pandemic and restrictions, experience exchange visits to EU countries that were planned in the Project proposal, are still in process and will be released in 2023 and 2024. Despite restrictions, during the reporting period some trips, meetings, and conferences were also attended face-to face.

  • On 14th April 2021 the Project took part in an online Nordic-Baltic LIFE platform meeting event to facilitate networking and cooperation among nature conservation experts and partners implementing LIFE projects in the region. All Project beneficiaries participated with an introduction video clip to represent the Project.
  • On 21st May 2021 NCA took part with a presentation about the Project aim, objectives and goals in the annual marine seminar dedicated to marine waters of Latvia. This seminar was held online so no expenses appeared.
  • On 11th to 12th October 2021 NCA and LIAE went on face-to-face meeting with scientists of Klaipeda University to discuss experience and best practice and advice for sea bottom scanning with side-scan-sonar and multibeam echosounder method. Afterwards detailed technical specification for Public Procurement procedure was designed.
  • On 4th to 6th October 2022 NCA took part in the Nordic – Baltic LIFE platform meeting event that was held in Klaipeda, Lithuania to facilitate networking and cooperation among nature conservation experts and partners implementing LIFE projects in the region.
  • On 22nd to 23th March 2022 LIAE took part in EU-LIFE platform meeting (La Rochelle, France) “Marine protected area management experiences towards strictly protected areas” focusing on the keys to understanding, choosing, and acting for the implementation of European policies: sharing experiences to improve the effectiveness and relevance of European policies.
  • On 10th to 14th October 2022 LIAE took part in 4th Ecosystem Services Partnership Europe Conference (Heraklion, Greece) with 2 presentations: S.Strāķe et al.: “The supply and value of nutrient regulation service performed by habitats in the Latvian marine waters”, oral presentation & A.Armoškaite et al.: “Ecosystem services for multiobjective maritime spatial planning”, oral presentation.
  • On 15th February 2022 BIOR participated in the 80th International Scientific Conference of the University of Latvia and presented the project aim and the first year results. J.Gruduls et al.: “Studies of potentially protected areas in the Latvian EEZ in the Baltic Sea: purposes and first results”, oral presentation.
  • BIOR representativepresented project activities in ICES WKSTARGATE workshop which was held in Copenhagen (23.08.-25.-08.2022), expenses of participation in the workshop are not added to the Project.
