Face-to-face meetings are an effective way to raise public awareness of stakeholders about the role of the LIFE project as well as to promote experience exchange with other organisations and projects dealing with similar nature conservation issues and management interests not only from Latvia, but also from Biogeographical marine region.

 

Results in the Mid-term of the Project:

  • On 14th July 2021 the Project took part in summer camp “Discovering Coastal Secrets” organisation for new riders of Latvia All together 51 participants took part in sea day of the camp and were introduced with coastal species of algae, shellfish, and crustacean as well as three invasive alien species mud crab, Chinese mitten crab and round goby. Young students were also introduced to the Manager of Invasive Species and trained to use this new tool for logging their new founds of invasive species on the coastline.
  • On 2nd June 2022 the Project together with LIFE-IPE LatViaNature took part in a seminar organisation that was dedicated to LIFE-30 jubilee, where the Nature Conservation Agency looked back on the implemented projects as a lead or associated partner. Within this seminar 41 participants were introduced with the best stories of NCA LIFE project implementation processes.
  • On 8th June in Salacgrīva, on 9th June in Engure, on 14th June in Ventspils and on15th June 2022 in Liepāja opening seminars for management plan development of marine protected areas were organised. It is an official process according to national legislation that opening seminars must be organised to inform stakeholders about plans and possibilities to participate in the development process. All together in all four seminars 58 participants were introduced with overall objectives and tasks of the Project and with the official development process of management plan for marine protected areas.
  • On 30th September 2022 the Project took part in European Night of Scientists 2022 event where 423 visitors in the territory and bureau of Latvian institute of Aquatic Ecology were introduced with various marine research devices, with stories about secrets of the depths of the Baltic Sea and were able to gain new knowledge of natural values on the coast in various learning and interactive activities. Organisers of the Night of Scientists and Project staff were really surprised that the average time of each individual visit was more than two hours which means that society is very interested in processes of research of the Baltic Sea. Description and invitation was published in the official web-pages of the European Night of Scientists event in Latvia.
  • On 17th October 2022 first workshop of the development process of the management plan for marine protected areas was organised where project partners discussed already developed parts of the management plan and split responsibilities for successful plan development.
  • On 21st November 2022 the second workshop of the development process of the management plan for marine protected areas was organised, where project partners continued discussions of the development of the plan and agreed on further work and deadlines to be done.
